Corporations Urge Government Action on Water Crisis


CEOs of 19 mulitnational corporations have sent an open letter to G8 government leaders (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States) urging them to work with the international business community in addressing the global water crisis. The letter states, "...water is not just an environmental issue - it is a poverty and development issue, an economic issue, and therefore a business issue....as business leaders, we will not achieve meaningful progress unless Governments live up to their responsibilities and commitments....As leaders of the world’s most powerful economies, we therefore call on you to make the emerging water crisis a global priority.”


Signatories include: Diageo; Hayleys PLC; Hindustan Construction Company; Läckeby Water AB; Levi Strauss & Co.; Liqum Oy; Metito (Overseas) Limited; Nestlé S.A.; Netafim Ltd.; PepsiCo, Inc.; SABMiller plc; Siemens AG; Suez; SunOpta Inc.; The Coca-Cola Company; The Dow Chemical Company; Unilever; Westpac Banking Corporation; WPP.
