Fair Trade Flowers: A Sustainable & Responsible Choice

When you buy fresh-cut flowers, do you consider where they come from? It's very likely they can be traced back to Colombia and Ecuador, the largest importers of fresh-cut flowers in the US.

But just in time for Valentine's Day, Transfair USA now has a Fair Trade Certified flowers website. On the website, you can learn more about fair trade flowers and find locations where you can purchase them. Did you know you can purchase fair trade flowers online through Sam's Club or 1-800-flowers, or in-store at New Season's Market, GIANT Food Stores, or UKROPS?

You can read about the International Labor Rights Forum's "Fairness in Flowers" campaign here.

New CEO for Coca-Cola

Muhtar Kent, COO of Coca-Cola, has been named the new CEO, effective July 1, 2008. He will replace current CEO, Neville Isdell. Coca-Cola has recently encountered much controversy over their practices in Colombia and India, resulting in many boycotts and lost contracts. Mr. Kent's record with Coca-Cola is not unblemished (he was previously accused of insider trading) and it remains to be seen how he will handle Coca-Cola's corporate social responsiblity and environmental practices.
